# How to Add a New SOLIDWORKS Serial Number to your SolidNetWork License Manager

## Step-by-step instructions for SOLIDWORKS administrators to add new serial numbers on a SOLIDWORKS Network.

### Step 1: Deactivate the existing license (only if replacing a serial)

Skip this step if you are **adding** a serial alongside the current one. If the old serial is being retired or replaced, deactivate it first so the activation isn't stranded on the server.

1. On the license server, open **Start \> SOLIDWORKS Tools \> SolidNetWork License Manager Server 20XX** (right-click \> *Run as administrator*).
2. Go to the **License Administration** tab and click **Modify**.
3. Select **Move product licenses to the SOLIDWORKS server** and click **Next**.
4. Click **Select All**, then **Next**, and let the transfer complete.
5. Click **Finish** and close the SolidNetWork License Manager.

### Step 2: Enter the new serial number

Where you enter the serial depends on the SNL Manager version on the server.

#### SOLIDWORKS 2023 and later (inside SNL Manager)

1. Open **SolidNetWork License Manager Server 20XX** as administrator.
2. On the **Server Administration** tab, click **Modify** in the **License Information** section.
3. Select **Activate/Reactivate** and click **Next**.
4. Click **Next** again to keep the existing port and firewall settings.
5. Click **Add** and paste the new serial number(s) into the **Add Serial Number** window.
6. If you are retiring the old serial (deactivated in Step 1), highlight it and click **Remove**.
7. Continue through the wizard. It goes straight into activation, so pick up at Step 3, item 5.

#### SOLIDWORKS 2022 and earlier (Control Panel)

1. Open **Control Panel \> Programs and Features**.
2. Select **SOLIDWORKS SolidNetWork License Manager** and click **Change**.
3. Click **Next** on the welcome screen.
4. Select **Modify** and click **Next**.
5. On the serial number page, enter the serial numbers **separated by commas** (old and new, unless you're retiring the old one). Click **Next**.
6. Click **Install** to complete the modification, then go to Step 3.

### Step 3: Activate the new license

1. Open **SolidNetWork License Manager Server 20XX** as administrator. If prompted that the product is not activated, click **Yes** and skip to step 4.
2. Otherwise, go to the **License Administration** tab and click **Modify**.
3. Select **Activate/Reactivate your product license(s)** and click **Next**.
4. On the **License Server Information** page, confirm the port (default **25734**). If a firewall is running on the server, check **A firewall is in use on this server** and enter the vendor daemon port (default **25735**). Click **Next**.
5. Click **Select All** to choose every product on the serial.
6. Enter a contact email address and choose **Automatically over the Internet** (recommended) or **Manually via e-mail**. Click **Next**.
7. Confirm each product shows as activated, then click **Finish**.

### Step 4: Verify the license server

1. In SolidNetWork License Manager, open the **Server Administration** tab and confirm the server status is running. If not, click **Start**.
2. Open the **License Usage** tab and confirm the expected products and seat counts appear.

### Step 5: Update the serial number on client installs

Client installs also need the new serial number. Follow this article: [How to Change Your SOLIDWORKS Design Serial Numbers](https://support.swyftsol.com/knowledge-base/how-to-change-your-solidworks-serial-numbers?hsLang=en)
