How to Manage Your SOLIDWORKS Templates on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for uploading, accessing, and managing your SOLIDWORKS templates on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Managing your SOLIDWORKS templates effectively is critical for maintaining design standards and ensuring seamless collaboration in a cloud-connected environment. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows users to store, access, and share custom templates (parts, assemblies, and drawings) securely from a central location, eliminating the need for local file management and improving team productivity.

Saving New SOLIDWORKS Templates to 3DEXPERIENCE

  1. Customize the Document Settings and format of a SOLIDWORKS drawing, part, or assembly that you would like to save as a template.
  2. Select File > Save As Template...

  3. Provide the template an appropriate title and select either Create as Released or Create as Draft.
    1. Create as Released: You do not plan on making any further changes at this time, and it is ready for yourself and others to use.
    2. Create as Draft: You still need to make further changes before used by yourself or others.

TIP: If you have saved the template as a draft, you will need to manually release it before others are able to use it. This can be achieved with the following steps.

  1. Open the template file in SOLIDWORKS.
    1. If you are unsure of how to locate your template previously saved to the platform, reference the section below on editing an existing template.
  2. Open the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane along the right side of SOLIDWORKS.
  3. Right-click > Maturity.

  4. Transition maturity state to released.

You may need to repeat this step from Private > In Work > Frozen > Released depending on how your Maturity states are mapped.

Editing Existing SOLIDWORKS Templates on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  1. Open the 3DEXPERIENCE task pane along the right side of SOLIDWORKS.
  2. In the search bar, search for the name of your template.
    1. If you are having a hard time locating the template, search for XCADTemplate and you will be provided a filtered list of only template files.
  3. Drag the desired template from the task pane into SOLIDWORKS to open it.

  4. If the template is in a released state, right click on it in the task pane, and select New Revision.

  5. Make any needed modifications and select File > Save to 3DEXPERIENCE.
  6. If you are ready for the template to be used, set the maturity to Released.

How to Use SOLIDWORKS Templates Stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

  1. Select File > New.
  2. If prompted with the Novice dialog, select Advanced.

  3. Access the 3DEXPERIENCE tab and select your template from the Select a template section.
