How to Resolve 'Cannot find the C:\Program Files (x86)\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SolidNetWork License Manager\licenses\sw_d.opt file'

When editing an Options file for a SolidNetWork License Manager, you may be met with a message stating the sw_d.opt file cannot be found. Follow the steps in this guide to resolve this error.

NOTE: Administrator permissions for the computer are needed for the final step of this guide.

  1. Open Notepad.
  2. Save the empty text file as sw_d.opt in any location (the Downloads folder will be used as an example for this guide).
  3. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the Downloads folder.
  4. Select the View dropdown, and turn on Hidden items in the Show fly out.

  5. Right-click on the sw_d.opt text file, and select Rename.


  6. Remove the .txt extension and confirm when prompted to change the file extension.
  7. Cut (CTRL+X) the sw_d.opt file.
  8. Paste (CTRL+V) the sw_d.opt file in C:\Program Files (x86)\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SolidNetWork License Manager\licenses.

 

Now, when you attempt to edit your Options file from your SolidNetWork License Manager, the error should no longer appear. If your file path differs than that shown in Step 8, you can paste the file in the location specified in your installation instead.
