How to Resolve the "SW Title Not Unique" Error When Saving to SOLIDWORKS Data to 3DEXPERIENCE

Fix duplicate file title conflicts so you can successfully save your SOLIDWORKS part, assembly, or drawing to 3DEXPERIENCE

This error appears when your administrator has configured the Check File Title for Uniqueness setting to block saves. 3DEXPERIENCE has found an existing part, assembly, or drawing with the same file title as the one you're trying to save, and it stops the save until the conflict is resolved.

Identify Whether the Existing File is a Duplicate

Before taking any action, determine what you're actually dealing with.

  1. Search the file title in 3DEXPERIENCE.
  2. Right click on the file already saved and select Preview.
  3. Compare it to the file you're trying to save and determine whether it's a true duplicate or a different file that happens to share the same title.

This determines which branch below you should follow.

  • If it's a true duplicate, go to Branch 1.
  • If it's a different file that happens to share the same title, go to Branch 2.

Branch 1: The file is a true duplicate

If it's a part, drawing, or top-level assembly:

Don't save your version. Use the file already saved in 3DEXPERIENCE instead.

If it's a component within an assembly or sub-assembly:

You need to replace your copy with the version already saved to the platform. Rename your part before replacing it — if you skip this, SOLIDWORKS treats the two identical-titled files as the same open component and throws an error during the replace step.

  1. Open the part in question.
  2. Right-click the part and select Rename File Title.

  3. Enter a new title, then click OK.
  4. Save the part file, then close it.
  5. In the assembly, right-click an instance of the part (in the graphics window or the assembly tree).
  6. Click the dropdown at the bottom of the right-click menu and select Replace Components.

  7. Click All for Instances to replace and select Browse.

  8. Select Open from 3DEXPERIENCE.

  9. Search for the file title and select the version already saved to the platform, then select Open.

  10. Click the green check mark to confirm the command.
  11. Confirm all mates are aligned, then complete the command.

Once carried out for all duplicate titles within the assembly, you should now be able to save the assembly to 3DEXPERIENCE.

Branch 2: The file is different but shares the same title

This applies whether the file is a standalone part, drawing, top-level assembly, or a component within an assembly or sub-assembly. In every case, you just need to rename it.

  1. Open the affected part, assembly, or drawing.
  2. Right-click it and select Rename File Title.
  3. Enter a new, unique title.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Save the file.

You should now be able to save to 3DEXPERIENCE.
