How to Switch Between Machines Using SOLIDWORKS Design Named User Licensing

When switching between different computers while using SOLIDWORKS  Design Named User Licensing, there are specific steps that can be taken to ensure a smooth transition and avoid errors.

Important note: Starting November 15th, 2025, SOLIDWORKS has updated its product names. This article applies to SOLIDWORKS Design Named User Licenses. If you were using 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS (also know as SOLIDWORKS Connected), you can continue the installation with these instructions, as the steps will be the same.

Steps to Follow

  1. Log Out from the Previous Machine:

    • Before switching to a new machine, ensure that you log out of your account on the old machine. This can typically be done through the 3DExperience pane in SOLIDWORKS.
  2. Check Date and Time Settings:

    • Ensure that the date and time settings on the new machine are correct. If the machine's date/time is not synchronized with the license server, you may encounter a "License not granted" error.
      • To set the date and time:
        • Go to Settings (Windows) -> Time & Language.
        • Set Time to Automatic.
        • Set Time Zone to Automatic.
        • Optionally, toggle the setting for Adjust for daylight saving time automatically to ON.
        • Use the Sync now button to synchronize your clock.
  3. Clear Browser Cache:

    • Clear the web browser cache on the new machine to prevent any cached data from causing issues.
  4. Delete Specific Folders:

    • Navigate to the following directories and delete all content inside:
      • C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\DassaultSystemes
      • C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\DassaultSystemes
    • Note: The AppData folder is hidden by default. To access it, ensure that the Hidden Items checkbox is checked in the View tab of Windows File Explorer.
  5. Launch SOLIDWORKS Design:

    • After completing the above steps, attempt to launch SOLIDWORKS Design on the new machine.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can effectively switch between different machines while using SOLIDWORKS Design: Ensuring proper logout procedures, correct date and time settings, and clearing cache and specific folders will help prevent common errors associated with licensing and access.
