Installing the Design with SOLIDWORKS application
The Design with SOLIDWORKS app is a small connector app that allows you to maximize your Cloud Services in conjunction with your Standalone version of SOLIDWORKS - the best of both worlds!
This applies to serial-number managed Standalone versions of SOLIDWORKS, not 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Connected installations
- Things you’ll need before you get started:
A set of Cloud Services licenses (included with your SOLIDWORKS purchase if after July 2023)
Your (or your administrator's) 3DEXPERIENCE Platform username and password
A completed installation of SOLIDWORKS Standalone 2024 or newer
Local Admin rights to your computer
Ensuring your roles are assigned and you have access to the software:
- First, be sure to close out any sessions of SOLIDWORKS. Then log into solidworks.com/3dx
- Next, check out this link to be sure your roles are assigned appropriately (you’ll be looking for a role called ‘Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS')
- Click on the Compass and scroll down in the My Apps section and look for an app called Design with SOLIDWORKS (see figure below). If this is available, you should be good to continue.
Installing Design with SOLIDWORKS app
- When ready to install, Click the little down arrow next to the Design with SOLIDWORKS icon. There may be a small delay as the Platform checks what is installed on your system. Then you should be prompted to Install Now. Follow the steps to complete the installation
Tip: If you haven't installed anything from the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform before, you will be required to install a small .msi file called 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher. If it doesn’t start automatically, you can find it in your downloads folder and double click to install it from there. Once that has completed you can return to the previous Installation screen and click Continue
Launching Design with SOLIDWORKS the first time
- Return to solidworks.com/3dx, and scroll down to find Design with SOLIDWORKS in your apps list again. Click on the icon itself (not the down arrow) to launch the program from the Platform. This should start a session of SOLIDWORKS on your desktop and you will be prompted to log in.
- To launch SOLIDWORKS after the initial launch you can double click the desktop icon like normal. If it ever does not launch as expected, your first line of defense is always to return to the Platform and launch Design with SOLIDWORKS from there!
