Understanding Share Usage and Accesses from 3DDrive on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

This article explains the Share Usage and Accesses and clarifies the limits on file sharing from 3DDrive within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

What Does the Share Usage Display Mean?

The Share Usage section of the Drives Control Center indicates the amount of data (in MB) you have shared from 3DDrive on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This section is also useful for tracking how many files are currently accessible to others and managing your sharing capabilities effectively.

1 Access = 1 MB of shared data visualized or downloaded.

3DDrive File Sharing Limits

You can share a maximum of 5,000 MB/Person/Month. This is pooled accross all users on the account. For example, if you have 5 users on your platform, there will be 25,000 accesses available, which translates to 25,000 MB of data that can be shared. An access is consumed when someone visualizes (previews in web browser) or downloads the shared content.

For example, if you share a 4.3 MB design with someone, they will consume 5 accesses when they download it.

Sharing Files with External Users

To share files with external users, you must ensure that sharing settings are appropriately configured on your platform. Here are the steps to enable sharing:

NOTE: You must be a platform administrator in order to modify the following settings.

  1. Log into your platform and navigate to the Platform Management cockpit.
  2. Click on the Content tab.
  3. In the Drives Control Center widget, select the Share with External tab and enable Allow platform members to share content with external users by link and Allow external users to view and comment on shared content to allow sharing with external parties.

Once these settings are configured, you can share files directly from SOLIDWORKS or 3DDrive, allowing external users to access them without needing to download additional software.

Conclusion

Understanding the shares usage display and the limits on file sharing is crucial for effective collaboration. By managing your shared files within the 5,000 MB/User/Month limit and configuring your sharing settings correctly, you can streamline your workflow and enhance communication with external users.
