# Which Cache Should I Clear for SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Issues?

## Learn which SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE cache applies to your issue, which troubleshooting step to try first, and when to contact Technical Support.

Clearing cached or temporary data can help resolve some SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE issues, but only when you clear the right type of data for the problem. SOLIDWORKS uses more than one cache, and clearing the wrong location may not fix the behavior or could put locally modified files at risk.

If you use SOLIDWORKS with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, separate the issue into three categories before clearing anything: temporary 3DEXPERIENCE application data, embedded browser data used for sign-in and Task Pane content, and locally cached SOLIDWORKS design files.

This guide gives clients a safe starting point, explains which cache each step affects, and highlights when to stop and contact Technical Support before risking local design data.

**Important:** Do not manually delete SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE file-cache folders as a general troubleshooting step. Locally cached design files may include unsaved changes, locks, references, or synchronization states that must be handled through supported file-management tools or Technical Support.

**Client takeaway:** For most 3DEXPERIENCE-related SOLIDWORKS issues, start with SOLIDWORKS Rx and supported in-product tools. Do not manually delete hidden folders or local design-file cache locations unless Technical Support has confirmed that it is safe for your specific situation.

Use this guide to decide which cache-related troubleshooting path fits the issue you are seeing. Start with the least disruptive option, test after each step, and avoid deleting locally cached design files unless you are using supported 3DEXPERIENCE file-management tools or working with Technical Support.

### Start Here: Quick Decision Guide

| **What are you experiencing?** | **Recommended starting point** |
| --- | --- |
| **SOLIDWORKS cannot properly connect to 3DEXPERIENCE** | Restart the connector using SOLIDWORKS Rx |
| **3DEXPERIENCE sign-in window, Task Pane, or web content is blank or not loading** | Clear embedded browser caches using SOLIDWORKS Rx |
| **General 3DEXPERIENCE behavior continues after browser-cache troubleshooting** | Clear the 3DEXPERIENCE temporary directory using SOLIDWORKS Rx |
| **Files appear stale compared with the platform** | Use Refresh from Server before deleting cached files |
| **Files have unsaved local changes, locks, missing references, or sync warnings** | **Stop and contact Technical Support** |
| **Standard SOLIDWORKS issue with no 3DEXPERIENCE connection** | These procedures may not apply; contact Technical Support |

### Before You Begin

Before performing any cache-related troubleshooting:

1. Save your work.
2. Confirm that important files and changes have been saved to their intended location.
3. Close SOLIDWORKS and other 3DEXPERIENCE applications when instructed.
4. Follow one troubleshooting step at a time.
5. Reopen SOLIDWORKS and test the issue before moving to the next step.

Taking these steps one at a time helps identify which action resolves the issue while minimizing unnecessary changes to your environment.

### First, Determine Your Environment

#### **SOLIDWORKS with 3DEXPERIENCE**

If you access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from SOLIDWORKS, including MySession and other platform-connected functionality, continue with the troubleshooting options below.

#### **SOLIDWORKS without 3DEXPERIENCE**

If you use standalone or network-licensed SOLIDWORKS without connecting to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, do not use the 3DEXPERIENCE cache-clearing procedures in this article as a general fix. These steps are intended for platform-connected workflows and may not address ordinary SOLIDWORKS installation, graphics, performance, or stability problems.

If you are experiencing a standard SOLIDWORKS issue such as crashing, slow performance, installation problems, graphics issues, or unexpected application behavior, contact SWYFT Solutions Technical Support so the issue can be diagnosed using the appropriate SOLIDWORKS troubleshooting path.

### Do Not Do This

- Do not delete hidden SOLIDWORKS, Dassault Systèmes, or 3DEXPERIENCE folders from Windows File Explorer unless Technical Support has instructed you to do so.
- Do not clear the local design-file cache if files may contain unsaved changes, locks, references, or synchronization warnings.
- Do not use a cache path or deletion procedure from a different SOLIDWORKS release as a universal fix.
- Do not continue clearing additional cache locations without testing after each step.

### 3DEXPERIENCE Troubleshooting

In general, move from least disruptive to most sensitive: restart the 3DEXPERIENCE connection first, clear embedded browser data when sign-in or Task Pane behavior points to web content, clear CATTemp when broader 3DEXPERIENCE temporary data may be involved, and treat the local design-file cache as a separate file-management issue.

#### Option 1: Restart the 3DEXPERIENCE Connection

**Start here when:** SOLIDWORKS appears to be having difficulty connecting or communicating with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

For SOLIDWORKS 2026, SOLIDWORKS Rx is the preferred starting point because it provides supported 3DEXPERIENCE troubleshooting actions without requiring customers to manually navigate through hidden Windows AppData folders. The Troubleshoot tab can close and restart the connector processes, clear embedded browser caches, and clear the 3DEXPERIENCE temporary directory.

### To try this:

1. Close SOLIDWORKS.
2. Open **SOLIDWORKS Rx** from the Windows Start menu.
3. Open the **Troubleshoot** tab.
4. Locate the additional troubleshooting options for 3DEXPERIENCE users.
5. Select the option to restart the connector processes.
6. Launch SOLIDWORKS and test the issue again.

If the issue continues, move to the next appropriate troubleshooting step.

#### Option 2: Clear the Embedded Browser Cache

**Try this when you are experiencing:**

- Problems signing in to 3DEXPERIENCE
- A blank or incorrectly displayed 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane
- Platform content that does not load correctly
- Unexpected behavior within the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane
- Sign-in windows that do not display or behave correctly

SOLIDWORKS uses embedded browser technology to display the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane and sign-in experience. Like a standard web browser, this functionality uses cached web content.

If this data becomes stale or corrupted, clearing the embedded browser cache can allow SOLIDWORKS to rebuild it during the next successful connection.

### SOLIDWORKS 2026

1. Close SOLIDWORKS.
2. Open **SOLIDWORKS Rx**.
3. Select the **Troubleshoot** tab.
4. Under the 3DEXPERIENCE troubleshooting options, select **Clear embedded browser caches**.
5. Launch SOLIDWORKS.
6. Sign in and test the issue again.

This process clears temporary embedded browser data used by the SOLIDWORKS Chromium Embedded Framework cache and the WebView2 sign-in and Task Pane experience. After performing this step, launch SOLIDWORKS, sign in, and test before clearing anything else.

#### Option 3: Clear the 3DEXPERIENCE Temporary Directory

**Try this when:**

- 3DEXPERIENCE functionality continues to behave unexpectedly
- Cached platform information does not appear to refresh correctly
- Temporary 3DEXPERIENCE application data may be contributing to the behavior
- Clearing the embedded browser cache did not resolve the issue

The 3DEXPERIENCE temporary directory contains temporary settings and cached data used by SOLIDWORKS Design and other 3DEXPERIENCE applications.

For SOLIDWORKS 2026, this can be cleared directly through SOLIDWORKS Rx.

### To clear the temporary directory:

1. Close SOLIDWORKS.
2. Open **SOLIDWORKS Rx**.
3. Select the **Troubleshoot** tab.
4. Select **Clear the 3DEXPERIENCE temporary directory**.
5. Launch SOLIDWORKS.
6. Test the issue again.

The temporary directory used for this purpose is:

`%localappdata%\DassaultSystemes\CATTemp`

SOLIDWORKS recreates the necessary temporary data as you reconnect and continue working.

### What About the Local SOLIDWORKS File Cache?

The local file cache is different from the temporary caches described above.

When you work with SOLIDWORKS files through the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, files may be stored locally on your computer to support current work, offline access, and file performance. That local cache can include files with edits, locks, references, or synchronization states that need to be handled through supported file-management commands.

These files should **not** be treated the same as temporary browser or application data.

### Do not manually delete the local file cache as a general troubleshooting step.

Instead, use the supported file-management functionality available through **3DEXPERIENCE Files on This PC**.

From this tab, you can review locally cached files and use supported commands such as:

- **Refresh from Server**
- **Delete from this PC**
- **Cleanup**

SOLIDWORKS may prevent removal when files have local modifications, are open in the current session, are locked by you, or are referenced by assemblies or multibody parts that do not meet deletion conditions. If a file shows a warning icon, use Refresh from Server to update the cache before attempting to delete it.

**Important:** If you are unsure whether a locally cached file contains unsaved changes, stop and contact Technical Support before removing it.

### Which Option Should I Use?

| **What are you experiencing?** | **Recommended starting point** |
| --- | --- |
| **SOLIDWORKS cannot properly connect to 3DEXPERIENCE** | Restart the connector |
| **3DEXPERIENCE sign-in issue** | Clear embedded browser caches |
| **Blank or incorrectly displayed 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane** | Clear embedded browser caches |
| **Platform web content is not loading correctly** | Clear embedded browser caches |
| **General unexpected 3DEXPERIENCE behavior** | Clear the 3DEXPERIENCE temporary directory |
| **File appears stale compared with the platform** | Try **Refresh from Server** before deleting cached files |
| **Need to remove unused locally cached files** | Use **3DEXPERIENCE Files on This PC \> Cleanup** |
| **File has unsaved local changes** | **Stop and contact Technical Support** |
| **Standard SOLIDWORKS issue with no 3DEXPERIENCE connection** | These procedures may not apply |

### A Note About Different SOLIDWORKS Versions

Cache locations and available troubleshooting tools can vary between SOLIDWORKS releases and service packs.

For example, newer versions of SOLIDWORKS provide additional 3DEXPERIENCE troubleshooting options directly through SOLIDWORKS Rx. Older releases may require different procedures.

For this reason, use supported SOLIDWORKS tools whenever possible instead of manually deleting folders or applying a cache path from a different SOLIDWORKS release.

If the options shown in this guide are not available in your version of SOLIDWORKS, contact SWYFT Solutions Technical Support before manually clearing additional locations.

### When Should I Contact Technical Support?

Clearing temporary data can be useful, but it should not become the default solution for every SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE problem.

Please contact SWYFT Solutions Technical Support if:

- You are unsure which cache applies to your issue
- Your files contain unsaved local changes
- Assemblies report missing references
- Files appear read-only, locked, or out of sync
- You receive save or synchronization errors
- The issue returns after clearing temporary data
- Multiple users are experiencing the same problem
- You are unsure whether the issue is related to SOLIDWORKS, licensing, or the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

When contacting Technical Support, provide your **SOLIDWORKS version and service pack**, a description of the behavior, screenshots of any error messages, and whether you are using SOLIDWORKS with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This information helps us identify the appropriate troubleshooting path before making changes to your SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE environment.

### Recommended Support Note

When opening a support case, you can copy and complete this note:

*I am using SOLIDWORKS \[version/service pack\] with/without the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. I am seeing \[describe the issue\]. I have already tried \[list any steps attempted\]. The issue started \[when it started\]. Screenshots or error messages are attached.*
